You want to make sure your hair has been washed, with little to no product in your hair as possible. The more product you have in your hair, the harder it is for my tools to do their thing.
I also offer "Hair Wash & Condition" services that you can add to your booking, for an additional $15.
Honestly, a lot of barbers have their own lingo. During a consultation, it is my priority to get on the same page about what we are co-creating. I make sure to ask questions and repeat back what I've heard a client express, in my own words. Besides, you are not the barber so I do not expect my clients to have the "right language" when they are coming in for a haircut.
However, the short answer is...photo references!
It's okay! You are likely someone who imagines something you've never seen before or a style that isn't typically represented with your hair texture.
This way of approaching a haircut is particularly exciting to me. If this is you, you should add the, "What am I doing for you today?" service which will add 10 minutes to your appointment so that I can learn more about your unique vision!
In general clippers are used for shorter lengths/styles (Clipper HairKut) and shears are used for longer styles and trims (Shears HairKut).
Sometimes a client has multiple desired lengths throughout their hair which requires both clippers and shears. For this case you should book a "Clipper and Shears HairKut".
If you would only like one side of your hair or the back of your neck cut you should select "Nape or One Side HairKut"
If you would like your beard or facial hair to be cut you should choose from any of the "Beard/Stache Kut" options. This is an additional service that is not included with any of the hair cuts.
For questions about designs you can contact me directly using the contact form on the bottom of this page.
Shears are a fancy word for scissors!
A lineup (aka shape up or edge up) is the process of removing hair that is growing over your hairline with a trimmer and/or razor. A lineup can add structure to any haircut. An optional lineup is always included with my services.
A fade (aka taper) is when a haircut starts from a shorter length and blends into a longer length. There are various types of fades to consider.. Some examples are:
1. Skin fade: This is when a haircut starts from bald and blends into a longer length.
2. Shadow fade: This is when a haircut starts from stubble and blends into a longer length.
In NYC, a taper fade (aka blowout) also refers to a style of haircut where only the hair at the temples and the nape of the neck is faded.
My days off are Wednesday thru Fridays. You can view my schedule on the Book section of this website.
Each service takes different amounts of time to complete, so there is also the possibility that I have an available slot that might not be enough time for the services you are requesting.
PLEASE do not request additional services during your appointment. I will likely only have time for the service you booked me for.
